[attr="class","dgvc_box"] OVERVIEW [attr="class","dgvc_text"] A young man on the autism spectrum, Yūjin Inazuma also holds the privilege of being one of the original eight "DigiDestined" that was chosen to save his world and the Digital World from the threat of the Virus. Rather unfortunately, he is also the only member of this group to be completely denied the celebrity, glory, or recognition that his peers continue to be generously gifted with, a reality he has learned to accept with nothing less than complete indifference; virtually no one knows who he is, what he contributed, or why he even bothers to give it any thought at all.[break][break] A crucial motivator behind Yūjin's willingness to fade away into the depths of obscurity rest predominately on his condition, which revolves around a series of neurodevelopmental differences that require him to constantly, meticulously, endlessly adapt and flourish in a society that not only regularly fails to accommodate for his own needs as a person, but also refuses to bridge this gap in understanding with a more tolerant viewpoint of the challenges that such a mental profile imposes. Because there is already an astounding lack of interest in getting to know him anyway, Yūjin is frequently disregarded or ignored in most social settings, causing many to develop the mistaken impression that he is an emotionless, vapid social recluse. To the average member of society, he is an irredeemable neurotic mess.[break][break] What these people do not realize, let alone comprehend, is that he is constantly exposed to a heinous double-standard that only those with autism seem to be able to recognize: where Yūjin is expected to behave and conform unerringly, others are permitted, or even encouraged, to do the opposite, and usually with little regard to his thoughts or feelings. This makes him a frequent target of malicious individuals looking to get an easy rise out of him, as any reaction Yūjin is provoked into expressing — no matter what it is or how he displays it — will instead be translated by the offending party as an externalized validation that, somehow, he deserves to be treated like the weird, substandard failure he is.[break][break] Years of perpetual exposure to this type of ignorance has caused Yūjin to become severely insecure with himself to the point of social withdrawal, an attempt at protecting his already-fragile sense of ego. While he has learned to project a somewhat convincing image of aloofness, Yūjin is averse to everyday chitchat, not out of shyness, but because he finds it painfully boring and meaningless. Attempts to coax or goad him into even the simplest conversation yield little success for anyone that tries, resulting in lots of frustration and usually ends with the other party giving up. Despite what might run through somebody else's mind, Yūjin is not oblivious to their irritation and, in fact, becomes easily distressed when tempers begin to flare.[break][break] It should be made clear that Yūjin's social difficulties reach far deeper than mild discomfort in public settings. A vast majority of the problems that he experiences through the lens of autism can be directly pinpointed to some kind of sensory overload in the immediate moment: what Yūjin sees, hears, smells, tastes, and feels is often amplified to such an intense degree that the mere act of "tuning it out" becomes virtually impossible. Because nearly anything can trigger a disruption in his ability to function, he is susceptible to distraction, especially when a task requires him to maintain concentration under stressful conditions. It also means Yūjin never gets invited to parties, which actually does suck from time to time.[break][break] Perhaps in a rather ironic twist of fate, Yūjin exhibits a truly baffling amount of tolerance for the very same people that ultimately deny him even basic human sympathy, which in turn is motivated by a genuine desire to be the example that many others like himself were never allowed to have. Compassionate to a fault, he demonstrates a willingness to put the feelings of others before his own, despite the possibility his attempt towards kindness might appear wooden or forced. A pacifist by nature, Yūjin values diplomacy before violence and will attempt to resolve any disputes peacefully before he ever considers throwing a punch. Some consider this part of his character to be childishly idealistic, even obtuse, yet none of this deters Yūjin from doing what he believes is the right thing.[break][break] All of this culminates into a single, definitive feature: hope. No matter what happens to him, or how bad it gets, Yūjin has never allowed himself to succumb to the despair that he has personally witnessed consume the lives of so many other people. Forged and tempered through trial by fire, his experiences as one of the DigiDestined have awakened him to an unyielding sense of purpose that serves as the crux of his continued mission to be the hero that both worlds need, regardless of whether or not they are deserving of such a privilege. Fame and fortune mean nothing to him — only the smiles of his friends give him the strength to carry on. | [attr="class","dgvc_box"] TRAIT(S) [attr="class","dgvc_text"] FLY ON THE WALL [break] What the No-Namers lack in vocal expression and community pride, is compensated for by complete anonymity within the common masses, allowing them to do the one thing that other factions often choose to overlook: hide in plain sight. As long as the trait holder is not an active participant in combat, meaning that they are not targeting or contributing to an exchange of blows with another individual, they cannot be targeted by attacks, skills, or effects that specifically require the user to select one (1) target. |
