I've always hated being interviewed. I hate not explaining the things that matter to me, and only answering the riddles with trivialities such as what I can bring to the metaphorically redundant table. I don't think you should be surprised that I'm behaving in such a manner that most readers or listeners would deem vulgar and unkempt. The truth of the matters - the words you want to hear - start from the very beginning of one's life.

My name is Matthew Aaron McDermott; I was born in Cornwall, New York on March 23rd, have lived in England, and I remember The End of Days.

Truth be, I'm not sure if what I witnessed was before my very eyes. I'm inclined to believe that such an event was recorded for future children's viewing and... most of what I saw has already left my memory - by choice. I've tried my very best to fully cleanse those stains but they've won me over. Such a thing as the Virus and the war are much too strong to simply be erased from the past.

Perhaps that is why every television from Auckland to Anchorage had ceased all broadcasts and displayed the events unfolding in Tokyo. I'm pretty certain that was the one night when the world stood still, and all eyes were open. Life, however, continued on, even after the battle was fought and won. I went back to school, found myself a job as a delivery boy, got myself a car...

I find it disturbing how quickly we adapted to such an event and pressed it into the backs of our minds, and just as equally vicious Tokyo has now become. Yes, you might now be wondering why I've touched base on these hallowed and cursed shores. It's because of this strange device that arrived in my mail some months ago. At first I thought it was some prank by a group of kids, and then some kind of gift from an old friend.

I miss her but, that's beside the point. I remember seeing this exact same device in the video and other news feed. The number of Tamers around the world - not just Japan - have increased dramatically. I took it as a sign that I was meant to come here. Out of curiosity, I activated the device and met the traveler that came with it.

That's a story to be told later. She... Margot, likens me to a friend and I don't know how to express my side of that coin.

I know these creatures only wish to live as one among us, partly in fear of the Virus that might still be treading its net of an ocean. I want to help them find peace, but through which means I am unsure of. I've heard things that everyone knows - tales of these radical factions and coalitions that seek to dominate this once peaceful capitol.

There are a few that disgust me, and yet some that echo what I feel in both heart and mind. If I am to stay here, my survival depends on my picking a side. I know what she would say, and I know what you want to hear. However, my decision is mine alone, and I shan't let you, nor her, influence me.

You wouldn't be the first to do so, truly. I did not come here alone with these thoughts of wanting to seek peace amongst all living things; organic and digital. The ship that brought me here was full of voices with both extremely differing and astoundingly similar reasoning. I know where I stand, and that won't change.

I may be an invader of a foreigner, but I do want to help. The one thing that is more frightening than the fallout, is the fact it can happen again.

BIGGER THREAT [break]
HYPNOS is always prepared to do what is right, even when others refuse to see reason. When entering combat, the trait holder becomes the target of all aggressive actions for three turns; during this period, any damage taken from enemy attacks and moves are reduced by one grade lower than their listed Damage Scales for every enemy that targets them, and their own attacks and effects have their listed Damage Scales raised by one grade for every enemy currently present in battle.
