And so I think of you as I fly above these streets, as I've done so many times before. But this time is different. The festival taking place below has brought many humans to one place, and with their increase in numbers so does the increase in danger for them. My workings might not make keeping them safe easier for the time being, but...
I sigh and perch upon a gated rooftop.
I cycle through the rapidly expanding data logs that are now my mind, reviewing the workings and worries of Anathema. It seems that one of my soldiers died the previous day, which wouldn't be so unusual if it weren't for the circumstances. He killed a member of HYPNOS. A young man by the name of Tyrone. Surely Itsuki would blame himself, that was so much like him. He never could think beyond general responsibility.
Not like you.
"And still they celebrate," I monologue, looking down at the simple minded on the streets below, "Not so different from my kind in that regard, I suppose."

If Hyde was asked, he would admit that he wasn't too big when it came to cards. Yes, Hyde understood their value, that some cards could prove very useful in dangerous situations. But Hyde was more content to just drink and party, nothing any card could help with, as far as he knew of. Still, they could be useful, and that was why the drunken royal was here today, walking around this card convention.
Needless to say, the tall, lanky hype man of the Maddened Royals stood out somewhat amongst the crowd. Mainly because he was the only drunk, stumbling around, while others tended to give the man a wide birth. Beside him, his partner, the PawnChessmon Black Teach, kept an eye on him.
"You know, we should keep an eye out for any useful cards. I heard there could be some good ones going for a good price." The good thing about being in the Maddened Royals. Plenty of money. Hyde would know, he spent a lot of it on booze. Hyde gave a small shrug. "Sure. Keep an eye out little buddy. I'm gonna see if there are any nice booth babes around here." Teach sighed. His partner was incorrigible.
The pair of them failed to notice the digimon above watching everything.

Another Digimon in the crowd caught my attention. A black PawnChessmon, and it seemed to be traveling with a drunkard.
You would probably be so disappointed if you knew the types who were receiving digivices now. Though given that Kimura was our self-proclaimed leader back then... Perhaps it wouldn't be so surprising.
My exo-skeleton shifted and my wings began to flit once more, carrying my small body into the air. The duo definitely weren't Anathema, and so it could only be assumed that they worked with one of two factions given the tamer's attitude: The unnamed lot, or the Maddened Royals. As far as I knew, the Heralds had yet to enact any sort of rehabilitation programs and would likely see his signs of consumption as 'sinful'. I would be inclined to agree, and so I kept a watchful eye on the man.
After all, sometimes humans could be just as dangerous to one another as Digimon.

What kind of convention was this!? Not only was this convention seriously lacking in booth babes, but there was no alcohol allowed as well. What sort of hell was Hyde sent into? The drunk was already beginning to grumble as their search for ANYTHING was turning up empty. If the Maddened Royals were the ones hosting this event, it would be a lot more fun. Well, probably not as fun as Hyde would have liked, but still pretty fun.
Meanwhile, Teach was keeping an eye out. While his partner was proving less troublesome than others might fear, that didn't mean there weren't other hazards around. Tensions had been picking up between the factions recently, and Hyde basically screamed Maddened Royal. If anyone was going to try and cause trouble for them, Teach would be ready to defend his partner. As such the PawnChessmon was the first to notice the insectoid digimon flying up above. Holding his spear tightly, Teach's eyes, hidden behind his visor, remained locked on the flying digimon.
And Hyde was able to pick up on his partner's tension. The drunk man looked up, seeing the Tentomon. "Well, looks like you're not the only digimon around," Hyde slurred. He didn't know if this was a rogue digimon, or if he had a partner somewhere in the crowd. One could never be too careful.

Something was different about this human that first glance would betray. Yes, he was a drunkard, not exactly the type that I would approve of Kimura keeping the company of back when my opinion mattered to the boy... but there was definitely a fire in this man. Something that burned bright. I could tell now why a digivice had been given to him:

"You expected your partner to be the only Digimon here?" I muttered, lowering my vertical height only slightly, "Ten years since the Virus, and even a tamer is shocked by the sight of us. I would have assumed the surprise to have dwindled by now." A scoff. It was the limit to my emotional response to such a trifling matter.
"Easy now, I am no Herald if that is your concern. Consider me a spectator in these affairs."

Ten years. It had been that long since Virus had appeared, hadn't it? Hyde remembered that time well. But no point in dwelling on it. All it did was make his left eye ache from behind the eyepatch. Hyde kept his calm as he watched the Tentomon, slowly lowering itself down, but keeping itself in the air.
"It ain't the presence of a digimon that bothers me," Hyde replied, "I've seen plenty, believe me. It's the context behind it. You could be a rogue digimon planning an attack, you could be with one of the rival factions. There's always that uncertainty factor behind it. Then again, you could be as you say you are, a digimon coming to watch the festivities. Virus may be gone, but that doesn't mean everything's safe. No harm in being cautious."
Teach blinked as he looked up at his partner. Despite the man being drunk, he still kept his wits about him at times. It just went to show how much his mind had adapted to the alcohol, but at the same time, bothered the little digimon. It just demonstrated how much he had been drinking.
Hyde gave a small shrug as he looked at the flying insect. "Well, if you ain't here to cause problems, you got no beef from me. Though it must be difficult to see everything when you're all the way up there."

My response was automatic as I began to scan the surrounding area. With one sweep I had documented information regarding the positioning of each human in the area, as well as how many of them were likely to be tamers or Digimon in disguise. Diagnostics couldn't always be as efficient with so many variables, but it was the closest thing to perfection attainable. I flew a bit lower, landing atop one of the many stands' cloth tops.
"Do you enjoy this as the rest of them do? Simply tromping about and viewing things without purchase? Or perhaps like that gentleman over there," I feigned ignorance momentarily as I pointed at the man in question, "taking things without paying?" I chuckled, "He must be very important, that they'd let him have all those things for free!"
A test of character. I had to know just the sort of individual I was dealing with here and whether I should just leave. I never enjoyed being a tattletale, but sometimes one did what they had to.

Hyde gave a small shrug. "In all honesty, I'm more here because I was sent here by the others. See if there's anything good to pick up. There are other things I'd rather be doing right now." And then, the stentorian spoke up about something...interesting. Someone stealing from the convention? Hyde rose an eyebrow as he followed the Tentomon's finger, spotting the man in the coat slipping cards into his pockets without people noticing. "Oh, is he now?"
Thankfully, Teach was already on the job. As the card thief turned away from the stall, he would be met with a spear pointed right at his face. The crowd around the paused, watching the little digimon seemingly threatening this innocent man. The only one who wasn't surprised was Hyde himself. The lean drunk slipped his hands into his pockets as he approached the pair. He turned his head and spoke out to a nearby convention-goer. "You may want to call security. Out trench coated friend here is swiping cards." "That's ridiculous!" the man shouted out in protest. Hyde simply gave the man a smirk.
"I'd better calm down if I were you. My little friend here is the one with the spear after all."

Most impressive, it seemed the Digimon took the lead in their relationship. A spectacular sight indeed, it was most impressive. It seemed those who fell into my own faction were not the only ones to survive in this manner. Still, it made sense. What was the tamer but a leash? There was only so much length to the chain, so to speak.
"Might I ask your names?" I flew down and in front of the two as the thief was escorted away by security, "It isn't every day that I'm graced with such entertainment. You may call me," I thought for a moment. Probably better that they not know my true identity.

It certainly didn't take long for security to turn up and escort the thief out. A brief search of his pockets had confirmed what Hyde had claimed. The man was trying to swipe rare cards for himself. Hyde didn't recognize the guy as one of the Royals. Was he with one of the other factions? at this point, it didn't matter. The guy was thwarted. Sucks to be him.
It seemed though that the demonstration had certainly entertained the Tentomon, who was now showing more emotion than he had before, applauding their actions. As the smaller digimon lowered himself down further, he introduced himself as Haruto before asking for their names. Well, good to see he gave the little bug a good show at least.
"The name's Nicholas Hyde," Hyde said, before gesturing to Teach, "And my little buddy here's Teach." The PawnChessmon Black gave Haruto a small wave. "Pleased to meet you."

I waved myself off from the two, before ending direct influence of the Tentomon. A simple matter, it was almost like flipping a switch, though far more of an internal process.

The Tentomon would shake its head groggily before looking about confused. It was not where it had last recalled being, but it was used to such affairs by now. Flying upwards, it would make one final scan of its surroundings before zipping off above the buildings. Rather interesting were the places Lord Lanius showed it. Hyde couldn't help but give a small chuckle as Haruto commented on his name sounding foreign. Honestly, the accent would have given things away too. But before he could respond, the Tentomon bid them farewell. Then, the strange insect digimon seemed confused for a brief moment before flying away. Odd.
Hyde watched the insect fly away before giving a small shrug. Well, that was certainly an interesting meeting. Well, with that done, it was back to work, checking to see what strong cards they could get for the faction. He looked down at his partner and shrugged. "Well...that was interesting.
