Akira is Kimura's long time friend and partner, deigned with the responsibility of guiding him through the digital world all those years ago. Between now and then, not much has changed in his mind; They still have the same trust for each other just as they did back then. Having known his tamer for so long, it troubles him slightly to see the changes in his demeanor in comparison to his behavior in the past. However, he knows the boy that grew up with him is still somewhere deep inside. It just takes the right motivations and circumstances to make it appear.

Akira is self named, being one of the few digimon that has been partnered with a human to do so. He values his individuality highly, the idea that digimon must remain subservient is nothing but new generation hog-wash. Although he does take orders to the tee, this doesn't mean he won't argue over their significance later. There's simply a time and place to express yourself and it usually isn't on the battlefield. Best to get done what must be done than to argue and lose yourself.

Being around for so long, Akira has adapted to life in the human realm. He understands the rules and also understands that he doesn't actually have to stay here. Most days, the decision to stay in Tokyo is fueled by the complex society they have. Other days, he returns to his home to see what progress has been made. Usually, it is a feeling of homesickness that causes this, but it's slowly started to leave his mind.
